Precision Estimating is the development of a new Xactimate estimate from documented project inputs. The estimator translates scope, measurements, repair method, labor, materials, equipment, sequencing, and project conditions into an organized estimate while making assumptions and missing information visible.
Before the first line item
Software can organize line items and price information, but it cannot replace a clear understanding of the physical project. RSR starts by testing whether the available inputs are sufficient to describe the work.

How Xactimate price data fits
Verisk’s published methodology says its price lists combine market surveys, completed estimates, and component-level research. It also says published prices target a common job scenario and can be inspected in detail. The estimator still needs to decide whether the selected item, quantity, components, and assumptions fit the documented project.

Organize the project by area, material, task, sequence, and documented repair or restoration method.
Select items and quantities that correspond to the mapped scope, including related components supported by the project record.
Separate documented facts from estimator assumptions and identify missing inputs that could change the estimate.

Sometimes photographs can support part of the scope, but they may not establish dimensions, concealed conditions, method, quantity, or every required component. RSR will identify the assumptions and missing inputs rather than invent project facts.
